Blog 1: Make the Choice to Change
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to stop using substances, or maybe you simply want a happier life. Maybe you want to chase a dream. Or maybe you have a personal story to share with the world and are afraid to tell it. Whatever it is, your commitment and drive to change will make all the difference.
Traumatic events, past failures and fear are powerful barriers. We have to retrain our brain to challenge our negative thoughts head on and face our fears. We have to live our daily lives with intent and meaning.
How often have you started your day without a quick self-check in? Well let’s start today. As soon as you roll out of bed, immediately begin by putting your goals and needs above everything else. This doesn’t mean others needs are not important, it simply means that for now you need to stay focused on yourself.
Back in the day my mornings normally were solely focused on making sure I didn’t set myself up for failing. I would start most days thinking, “yet another day I won’t get what I want done”. Since I changed my mindset and remain committed to my goals, I’ve fallen out of the bad habits of not checking in with myself before the day starts.
When you don’t check in with yourself daily, you will most likely start to feel disconnected from yourself and your goals. Remember, the more you avoid the more overwhelmed you can become and the lower your motivation will be.
One thing I have found helpful to overcome negative feelings is to set myself a daily intention. What does this mean? Well it means taking a moment every morning to pause and remind myself what I want to get done in the day ahead that will move me toward achieving my goal.
Try this every morning. Remember that working the C.I.T.E. means staying committed to the process and using the tools given. Success does come, trust me.
